Focus Areas

Panorama Academy’s 2-year education and 1-year top-up is built around ten focus areas, designed to match industry requirements and to help actors bridge the gap into the TV and film industry.

Acting techniques

The Chubbuck Technique

As the first Academy in Europe, we offer certified acting teachers within ‘The Chubbuck Technique’. We’ll thereby maintain the high quality of training and matching the standards of the ‘Ivana Chubbuck Studio’ in Los Angeles.
The 12-Step Acting Technique’ is guaranteeing individual in-depth growth. This focus area trains in-depth character work, self-taping, and on-screen acting.

Since our first encounter with Ivana in the late 90s at her studio in LA, we’ve been fans of her powerful guidance. Her bestselling book ‘The Power of the Actor’, is the dynamic and effective technique ‘The 12 Step Technique’. Since 2009, we’ve annually hosted Ivana Chubbuck Master Class in Copenhagen and Oslo with big successes. These masterclasses have provided Scandinavian actors the opportunity to define themselves as actors working in an English speaking setting, and to prepare for working A-level on set internationally – but actors have also had the opportunity to obtain hands-on tools that will help them progress and elevate their skills and talent, as we firsthand witnessed the magic and the catapulting growth and life-changing results actors experience when practicing the technique.

Multiple actors have achieved award-winning success by using Ivana’s technique, and many are now able to create characters that are so dynamic and interesting that we’ve encountered directors/producers deciding to elevate characters from supporting roles to series regulars, all based on the actors performances when using The Chubbuck Technique.

Camera training

Acting on Screen

This focus area is the collaboration between you as an actor, the camera DOP, and the director, designed to give you the opportunity to work with and in front of the camera and to learn all the basic industry ‘know-hows’. Throughout, you will get the opportunity to work closely with an award-winning DOP. We set the scene as if you are on a professional film or TV set – ready for ‘action’.

We will prepare you as an actor with specific, utilizable tools that are great to have before you book your first professional job, or give the actors who’ve been on a set before the opportunity to better themselves with effective and powerful tools in front of the camera.

A cornerstone of Acting on Screen is for you to practice self-evaluation and learn how to receive constructive feedback, and learn the importance of teamwork. We expect you to be ready to embrace challenges with open arms – and to come out of your comfort zone.

Casting and selftaping

Casting and Selftaping

This focus area will introduce you to the demands of the industry and will focus mainly on how to prepare yourself for castings, how to interpret the character, and how to selftape. Best of all, this focus area provides you with our selftape workshop where you perform a scene, record yourself on-screen and practice working with the camera, and thereby giving you hands-on tools that will elevate your selftape skills and talent, that ultimately will provide you with your unique and personalized result. You will also get to familiarise yourself with ‘cold reading’, how you ‘work and cooperate’ with both national and international casting directors, we will give you insights into cultural differences and the different workmodels.

Selftapes has perhaps a longer history within the industry than you might think, and it is here to stay. Panorama Agency was the pioneer of selftapes more than 20+ years ago where clients would record themselves on VHS-tapes. Today, selftapes are done digitally and have globalized our industry so that clients, regardless of nationality, can book jobs all around the world. Selftaping is an art in itself. Casting directors typically request a professional, authentic, and personalized selftape – and yet, it is paramount that the lighting, sound, cropping, and background are set to a professional standard.

A cornerstone of this focus area is to enlighten you, and prepare you for the real casting sessions and ‘the art of selftaping’. We will provide you with the does and dont’s, share insights, and provide you with the tools to breakthrough nationally and internationally.

Build your package

Build your Package

This focus area is on one of the most important aspects of becoming a professional actor, namely: how do you introduce your powerful potential and essence of you – to the key people in the industry?

This focus area will provide you with professional headshots via a professional photographer in a studio. Besides your professional headshots, you will work on how to set up your acting CV, the content of your BIO, and more.

Your package is a unique communication and networking tool. With this, you are able to showcase your talent and highest potential, and personality. After you’ve built your package, you’ll be ready to start networking on a professional level and seek those invitations to do selftapes and potential castings.

Stunt movement and meditation

Stunt, Movement and Meditation

This focus area will introduce you to the world of stage stunts, combat, dance, and body awareness. A cornerstone of this course is for you to get comfortable with and aware of your body and will provide you with exercises on how to deal with stress, rejections, and self-worth.

Dance: Your teacher is a long-time professional dancer in the industry. You will get hands-on experience with choreography. This class will provide you with awareness-raising exercises and techniques which both are applicable to screen and stage.

Stunt and Movement: Working professionally on a film or TV set, you’ll suddenly find yourself in a situation where the role has some physical challenging scenes, and because of the fast pace, and improvising nature of a film or TV set, you’ll need to put yourself out there and accommodate expectations. Therefore, you’ll find this course most helpful, because here you learn and understand the basic movement techniques, and you’ll get familiarized with your body and experience success by working outside of your comfort zone.

Awareness and Movement: You will get comfortable with, and aware of your body. An important thing is for you as an actor to become in sync with your body and strengthened as a whole. We will provide you with tools, techniques, and exercises on how to instrument your body, to develop the character, and find those unique character specifics, which are often tied to a character’s psychical behavior.

Meditation: We recommend that you practice a minimum of 7 effective minutes, every day, to find peace and balance during a busy day, and week schedule. Stop punishing yourself, welcome rejections as learning processes, and view them as important experiences, validate yourself to ‘Stand in your Light’.

Voice and dialects

Voice and Dialects

We will introduce you to the world of voice coaching with a particular focus on English dialects. You will be working with a professional American voice coach to explore the repertoire. You will also receive technical training in distinguishing between American English (GP) and British English (RP). The focus area will also provide you with the opportunity to produce your own monologue in a self-chosen variety of English.

Business affairs

Business Affairs

We introduce you to the business aspects of the industry. A cornerstone of this course is for you to receive coaching on our top principle — start seeing yourself as your own entrepreneur and enterprise — and results will follow.

You will also receive coaching on how to navigate when you book a role, and which steps you find are in front of you: negotiations, contract management, union regulations, legalities (such nudity on set, working over hours, harassment, etc.). You’ll also be introduced to ‘the role of’: the agent, the producer, and the casting director. We’ll provide you with insights and guidance on how to navigate this industry with determination, with heart, and with success.

Create your showreel

Create Your Showreel

This focus area will provide you the opportunity to work intensively with a scene partner using ‘The Chubbuck Technique’, where you practice and fine-tune in class. During the education, you get to work on scenes in the Chubbuck Technique, monologues, selftape workshop, and short films. With all of the materials as you pack you will be in the position to edit your personalized showreel from all of this high-quality material.

Social Media and Networking

This focus area will help you understand the world of digital brand building and how to better enhance and grow your social media brand. We focus on strategy and the concepts behind building a strong digital brand as well as practical steps. We will look at the major social media platforms and how you can utilize each different platform to your own advantage. We will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and more as we help you as an artist and entertainer to understand the ever-expanding digital world. We will talk about algorithms and the metrics behind social media as well as talking about how you can use your social media to help make the world a better place.

This class will be practical and we will have assignments that focus on doing rather than thinking. This is all about getting you started to build your digital brand and make more content that gets you to work as well as building your brand.

Throughout the education, Panorama Academy actors will get the opportunity to produce in-house projects in collaboration with Panorama Production, such as our 21 ‘Falling Apart Into Place’ COVID-19 short films.

This focus area will learn you the entire artistic process from idea development, character building, scriptwriting, and staging – to recording a series of three-min. films with reading tests, choice of genre, and cinematic style. Throughout the process, you will be working and learning not just as an actor but with all facets of being a creator, which ultimately will give you a better understanding of the artistic process.
